Currently, human demand exceeds the regenerative capacity of the planet. Therefore, urgent action is needed to make sure that the global population can meet its needs while ensuring the sustenance of future life on Earth.
Unsustainable land management practices such as deforestation, urbanization, or resource extraction degrade land to a point where it cannot sustain agriculture, vegetation, or biodiversity. This decline leaves the land mostly barren and eliminates the ability for communities to farm or benefit from the natural resources that were once prevalent. By shifting land management practices to prioritize conservation of natural landscapes, implement sustainable farming practices, reduce fossil fuel and mineral extraction and curb urban sprawl, the land can remain a regenerating resource and a tool to address climate change.
